What happens when I have too much fluid?
People who have to do dialysis often need to follow a fluid restriction (also known as fluid allowance). When too much fluid builds up in your body, it can cause:
difficulty breathing, especially when you are lying down.
swelling, such as in your hands, feet, legs, and face.
weight gain.
high blood pressure.
in the long term: a floppy weak heart
