Summary
Aim for 2-3 serves of lean meat, poultry, seafood, eggs or legumes daily.
Choose low potassium fruits/vegetables like apple, pear, peas and broccoli. Avoid fruit juice, potato crisps and tomato paste.
Take your phosphate binder with high phosphate meals. Avoid vegemite, ham, bacon, salami and cola soft drinks.
Read the labels on the back of food packets. Choose foods that have less than 120mg of salt (sodium) per 100g and less than 3g of saturated fat per 100g.
Ask restaurants if they can change dishes to be more dialysis friendly
When eating at a friend’s house, call ahead to let them know your dietary needs.
